I found Battleship to be pretty entertaining although I thought that it was just too long and some of the scenes were unnecessary. And who fell asleep in the editing room at the beginning of this film? Some of the editing misses were so blatant that I was shocked to see them on screen. I did have a deep appreciation for all the coordinates being given throughout the film, since it was based on the Hasbro game. The alien creatures and their machines were okay, but they did not blow me away. >> Read more

The Dallas ComicCon held at the Irving Convention Center May 19-20, 2012, is still underway. For an amazing event that is kid friendly and a great time for the kid inside adults like me, this is where the action is. The Trekkers were out in full force and the support for this event was remarkable. The lines to gain entry were wrapped in what looked to be at least a mile long and still the fans anxiously awaited an opportunity to meet and greet the likes of the marvel who is Stan Lee, the ultra regal Patrick Stewart and the effervescent John De Lancie, to name just a few of the celebrated artists.
Patrick Stewart (Dune, X-Men, Star Trek The Next Generation) spoke to the crowds on the main stage on Saturday afternoon and the elegance and grace with which he portrays a character was clearly defined as an integral part of who he is. I was struck by his humor and wit as he spoke of fund memories of having been a part of the Star Trek phenomena. It came as quite a surprise that he was not always so eloquent with the spoken word as he shared memories or his youth and how his speech was the local dialect, which for an American like me sounded like jibberish. Mr. Stewart praised J.J. Abrams for what he has done with the Star Trek series, noted that the Star Trek TNG DVD set is forthcoming and shared some stage time bantering back and forth with John De Lancie (Star Trek TNG, Secret Circle). Once his time was done with the audience Q&A we could do no less than stand and applaud.
The Costume Contest was a treat in and of itself. This event featured a childrens category, with Stewie of Family Guy leading the way for a group that included Rogue, Beavis and Butthead, an Amazing Spiderman and many others. The adult contest was categorized by Science Fiction-Fantasy, Comic Book and Video Game characters. The adult costumes featured more than one Batman, several Jokers and Riddlers. Competing with the aforementioned was Chebacca (see Photo Gallery), an adorable Harley Quinn and a too cool for words General Grievous.
The next event, which will also be held at the Irving Convention Center is Fan Days, October 20-21, 2012. Hope to see you there!

Chix Ratings
Our rating system is very simple. We believe you are intelligent enough to decide whether you will find an appreciation of a film by knowing if someone else would either recommend seeing it, offer indifference or advise against it. We have applied the basic images that you see every day and the greenlight align's with the Hollywood lingo to make a film.
Go and see the film, totally worthwhile!
Proceed with caution, see it or skip it; not compelling either way.
Stop and reconsider, possibly see when it arrives on video.
